Upcoming Volunteer Opportunity for October 17

By Cynthia Yapp, Publisher October 8, 2015

Want to help maintain urban forests? Do you love trees and want to learn more about them? Come and help Citizens for a Better South Florida with an Urban Forestry day.  This event requires significant physical work and is geared towards adults. However, kids 12 years and older can participate with the guidance of a responsible adult. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult and their legal guardian must complete a release form. Participants are welcomed to e-mail laura@abettersouthflorida.org with any questions and can register via e-mail prior to the event.

Here are our links for previously published, but still available, volunteer opportunities.

When registering for these volunteer opportunities, be sure to verify that your hours count toward graduation requirements.

Community Service Hours

Here are a few important things to know about the community service graduation requirements:

Each student must complete a community service project.

The project may be completed at any time during a student’s high school years.

Community Service Projects must be done at a NON-PROFIT 501-C ORGANIZATION.

Community Service can be performed at county parks, libraries, public schools, hospitals, retirement/nursing homes, day care centers, churches and religious organizations, homeless shelters, Boy Scout/Girl Scout organizations, Special Olympics, campaigning for political candidates or camps.

You should speak with your school counselor before doing any hours.
