Butterfly Life Cycle Mobile

By Julie Follansbee June 19, 2016
Butterflies are a sure sign that summer has arrived. It's truly a treat to see one resting on a flower sipping the nectar. Besides being beautiful to watch, they are important to our ecosystem because they pollinate plants and eat parasites and insects. They start laying their eggs in the spring and can produce up to four generations in one summer before they begin their trek to Mexico or California to over winter. One of our favorite butterflies is the Monarch. With its beautiful orange and black wings, it is called the "King of Butterflies".

BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE MOBILE
A great reminder of how many changes a butterfly goes through (just like kids!)

What you need:
Paper Plates
Construction paper
Crayons or markers
Hole Punch
String
Glue or glue stick

Print out the coloring sheet and have the kids color it. Cut out pieces. Punch holes in each of the tops and save the punched holes to glue to the leaf as eggs. Attach string to each. Cut the paper plate in a spiral. Arrange the cut outs on the paper plate as shown in photo above. Hang mobile.
