Note from your Publisher - Preparing for Hurricane Season

By Cynthai Yapp, Publisher July 30, 2020

Hurricane Season is such a part of our lives here in South Florida, that we sometimes forget that hurricane preparedness should be a yearly thing.  Every year you should check and re-check your supplies and if needed revise your hurricane plans.

If you don't have a personal hurricane plan in place, here is a basic list of items that are recommended you have on hand for a minimum of  7 days:

  • food and water
  • medicines
  • gasoline, and
  • cash ( ATMs may not be working!)

You should also have the contact phone numbers for family members handy, and know your evacuation center address and phone number if you are in an evacuation zone.

Check HERE  to see if you are in an evacuation zone, and for your nearest center. Call to make sure it will be open.  In the event we lose electricity and you need gas, here is a list of gas stations with generators where you may be able to get gas (updated 2019).

If you have not yet done so use your cellphone now to make a video and take photos of each room in your home for your insurance company. Be sure to take photos of all jewelry, important documents, and other valuables.
