Junior Reporter: South Florida Fair Entries

By Arabella May 1, 2021

Hi again! I’ve entered the South Florida Fair, and the due date for my projects is tomorrow. If you enter, you have to create crafts and drop them off by a certain day. I am writing this report to tell you about the crafts I have made (they’re all finished, by the way). First up is…….my clay coin-holder!

Clay Coin-Holder

For my first project, I created a short, clay cup. It can hold different things other than coins, like maybe your keys (although it can only hold small things, because it’s a small cup).  I chose the colors yellow, dark green, and light green because I liked the way they blended together.

Cardboard Slippers

As you can tell from the name, I made these slippers out of cardboard.  I used some material and scotch taped it together so I didn’t have to sew through the cardboard.  I traced my foot to make them the right size for my feet.  I made them a year ago, but they still fit!

Wall Hanging Weaving

I created this craft on my weaving loom.  First, I made four separate pieces, then I sewed them together to make one big beautiful creation.  After we get this back from the Fair, I am going to hang it up someplace in my house.  I think it really shows my personality!

Cherry Purse

My very cherry purse has dozens of cherries on it, with a nice red button and pink straps to tie it together.  When I finished it, I swung it all around and broke the strap!  Luckily, I was able to repair it.  This masterpiece was inspired by the club I was in last year at my school called, ‘Fun Fashionistas’.

Snowman Ornament

I made my snowman ornament out of cardboard from a tissue box, some jingle bells and a couple of pipe cleaners.  The most challenging part was finding white cardboard! Finally, I just covered it in white paper.  When you shake him, it makes a nice jingling noise. I can’t wait to hang him on my Christmas tree this year!

Snowman Snow globe

For my grand finale (which was a trial and error if you ask me) is a snowman snow globe, minus the water. The first time my mom and I tried to do a snow globe, we did it with a pipe cleaner Christmas tree. We put water in it, but the tree got all rusty and we had to throw it out.  For the better product, we didn’t add any water to the jar, just some tiny “snowballs” and a snowman made out of cotton balls. In the end, our final product went along as planned, and we are going to enter it in to the Fair safely.

These are all the projects that are going into the Fair this year. It’s my third year entering in this fair (I’ve won more than a few awards!). I hope you enjoyed learning about them, and if you come, you might be able to spot a few!
